You’re skimming through an issue of US Weekly when you see a paparazzi pic of Jessica Alba on a beach vacation, looking flawlessly bronzed head-to-toe while she frolics in the water. Have you ever wondered how her skin looks so naturally and flawlessly bronzed, even in the middle of winter? Because we have! And we’ve figured out how to achieve that soft, natural-looking celebrity glow. No matter how much money you spend on a self-tanner, improper care can be the difference between an amazing tan and a disaster!
We love the feeling of a fresh OrganicTan airbrush tan, but we get that you can’t always make it into the Vault for a session or you might need a top-up on your tan mid-vacation. It doesn’t have to be hard or a lot of work, but we’ve narrowed it down to three critical steps to ensure your glow will look flawless and last.
#1 – Exfoliate - Exfoliating your skin creates a fresh, smooth canvas for the self-tanner to go on evenly. Without any dry or flakey spots, there won’t be any patches of colour. Start exfoliating at least three days and everyday prior to your OrganicTan spray tan. Also, make sure any waxing or hair removal is completed 24 hours prior to spray tan application (this will help you avoid any pore dots) or before you apply your favorite SunnaTan sunless tanner. Your last shower and exfoliation should be 6-8 hours prior to your OrganicTan. This will leave the pH of your skin at an optimal level for the best tan!
#2 – Drink water – We’ve heard this one a million times before, and we know everyone and their dog needs to drink more water – but when your skin is moisturized from the inside, it will retain your tan that much longer. When your skin is hydrated, it won’t flake and your tan will last that much longer. This is so important!
#3 – Use coconut oil, everywhere. For like, everything – We can’t say enough about the benefits of coconut oil, and it is essential in maintaining your tan. Coconut oil can be used to moisturize all skin types. Coconut oil can also be used in the shower as a barrier/shaving cream during shaving to help preserve your tan. For shaving, ALWAYS use a NEW razor, NEVER a dull one when you’ve got a tan. Try to use coconut oil when you are still wet or in the shower as a moisturizer. This is when your pores are open and will help the coconut oil sink in faster. If you’re going on vacation, you can apply coconut oil before a dip in the ocean or lake to protect your skin when swimming. Other amazing functions of coconut oil: it reduces wrinkles, stretch marks, eczema and acne. It can also be used as an antibacterial salve, cleanser, eye makeup remover, tan protector and hydrating, soothing moisturizer. SunnaTan's incredible coconut oil is available at the Vault!
