New year, new locks!
There's something about a new year that makes us want to reinvent ourselves, inside and out. A simple and fun way to freshen up your look (and your outlook) for the year is trying a fresh hair style or colour! It's allows you to change up your look in a (fairly) noncommittal way. We sat down with our talented Vault hair squad and asked them for their insight into 2016's hottest hair trends to help you choose the next look for your luscious locks.
Changing up your look can be as simple as flipping your hair deep to one side. Statement parts are HOT and super easy. Part your hair in the dead centre or into a deep side part - this adds a lot of drama to your look in one simple step.
Bobbing and Lobbing
Cropped and Collarbone length bobs have transitioned into the new year and are still very much in style. These types of cuts are great because they are very malleable. You can wear them straight, curled or waved and with your natural texture to frame your beautiful face. Go for an edgier cut in the bob and lob length, think sleek blunt cuts and geometric shapes.
2016 is all about embracing your natural texture - or at least working with your hair to make it look undone. Try letting your natural texture out for a low-key "I woke up like this" vibe.
Take It Down A Notch
Top knots are out. Relaxed low, twisted buns are in. Many designers had their models styled this way during NY fashion week.
Say what you want, but BANGS are back, baby! We've all had 'em or thought about 'em. Maybe 2016 is the year to do it.
We can't believe we're saying it but Ombre is done! Balayage and Babylights are where it's at for that subtle, grown-in touch of colour. The difference is that Balayage and Babylights achieve that naturally occurring, melted colour using higher placements, instead of a stark colour transition.
Bronde's Have More Fun
"Bronde" hair is certain to be popular for blondes who want to go a little darker without committing to a full brunette head of hair!
The Pantone colours for the year are Rose Quartz and Serenity. Yes, they chose TWO this year!! #excited - both are dreamy pastel shades that we plan on incorporating into our wardrobe, manicures and HAIR for 2016. This is great news for blondes who want to add a little colour to their hair without it looking too dramatic. Think a light, washed out touch of cotton candy or wispy periwinkle for your ends or even all over. A great way to achieve this look is with a pink toner after a hair colour.
Inspired By Nature
The naturally occurring hues of crystals and pearls continue to influence hair colour trends, with the silvery, soft grey hair trend staying strong for 2016. Draw natural inspiration for your colour - think opal, mother of pearl, and gorgeous icy pastel blues.
The strobing trend has jumped from makeup to hair. Strobing is intentional placement of lighter pieces at the most flattering angle for your individual features. For example, if you have great cheekbones you may want to add some highlights right around the face. You want to "strobe" in areas where the sun would naturally hit, this will create soft contrast and dimension. Add a glossing hairspray for extra shine.
